Paul, in this scripture, is showing the Colossians again, that the wisdom that comes from God, who He is (His character, His person), and what He has done through the work of Christ, is far greater that what their culture has to offer.
We can get caught up and enticed into the temporal trappings of this world. Paul wants the Colossians and us to know that it is better to trust that the wisdom that comes from God than to trust in the wisdom of our age. Culture changes with time, but the wisdom of God never falters.
